&& Jason . Smith
The sun beat down warmly on Jason as he lightly mounted into the saddle. Thunder snorted impatiently, eager to get moving.
Alright boy, lets go.
Jason nudged the sides of his black horse lightly with his heels. Thunder needed no more encouragement and set off at a brisk walk. Jason needed some time alone and a trail seemed a good way to do that. So that was where he was headed. A small sign signalled to him that he was heading off onto the meadow trail. Jason merely glimpsed at it before continuing on.
Somewhere off in the trees a bird sung, its voice loud and clear. Apart from that the only other sound was Thunder's hooves on the dirt path. Jason smiled slightly and clicked to Thunder, while nudging him with his heels. He could tell Thunder wanted to go faster, which was a little unusual on trail rides.
The black gelding immeadiately leapt into an energetic trot, his ears pricked forward catching any sound. Jason rose easily to the trot, keeping a light contact on the reins.
The trees on the side of the path seemed to thin out and the grass verges were becoming larger and larger. Jason squinted as he tried to make out a brown shape in the distance. It turned out to be a fallen tree on the side of the path. Jason grinned and sat down into the saddle, signalling at the same time for Thunder to canter. Thunder jumped up into a light canter and spotted the log, switching his focus onto it. Jason counted out the strides towards the log in his head. One, two, three - lift off.
Thunder gracefully lifted up his forelegs and began the jump, while Jason leaned forward following the movement.
Time seemed to pause while Thunder and Jason hovered over the log but soon began to continue and sped up as they began their descent.
Thunder landed on the ground and cantered away. Jason grinned and patted Thunder's ebony black neck. He slowly eased the black gelding into a walk and turned his head to look at the log. It wasn't very tall but Thunder had given it a lot of scope. Jason smiled and returned his gaze back to the path, content in the warm sun.
